A workshop for viols, violins and all who want to explore the English Broken Consort* repertoire.

Los Angeles Baroque invites you to explore the sounds of viol consort and broken consort music. This workshop is geared toward any instrumentalist who wants to play English consort music, build musical skills, learn to blend same and different families of instruments outside the usual hierarchy of instruments in orchestral groups, and discover what is so fun about this repertoire. Artistic Directors Alexa Haynes-Pilon and Lindsey Strand-Polyak will be sitting in and playing with the consort groups.

Instruments: Period instruments recommended but not required

 

The workshop will include:

Tutti warm-up: sound exploration

Consort speed-dating: 45-minute reading sessions

Large group speed-dating favorites

Tutti playing of works by Gibbons and Purcell inspired by LAB’s collaboration with Jouyssance later in the week

Lunch, and 5pm BBQ in church courtyard open to all workshop attendees, and to LAB members and their families.

LAB Lab: fireworks, frogs and all things summer!

June 23-24 2017 saw LAB host its first summer workshop - a fun, intensive 2-day workshop on Baroque-style playing and performing, 

including an intimate Friday evening concert given by LAB’s Artistic Directors and a Saturday afternoon showcase concert.

The workshop was open to all string and wind players who wanted to play a broad range of baroque music, from beginners to advanced players. Baroque bows were available during the sessions for string players to experiment with.

Telemann: Overture-Suite 'La Bizarre' TWV55:G2 (Fantasie & Rossignol)

Handel: Music for the Royal Fireworks HWV351 (dance movements)
