She also participated in many collaborative group performances with The Ensemble at CalArts, REDCAT, and the CalArts Period Instrument Ensemble. Holly was LAB’s first string apprentice in 2023-24 and the team was delighted to renew Holly’s apprenticeship for a second season, 2024-25, with her formally taking on the position of LAB’s Concertmaster.

Cathy Newman, Development Director
Cathy Newman has played the flute and piano since a child, taking the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) graded exams on both instruments in London, England, where she grew up. As an adult she gained an ABRSM Diploma in Flute Performance and was also a member of many choirs and choral societies over the years. She worked in London for a nonprofit, organizing and running conferences in the U.K. and overseas for financial executives. After moving from the U.K. to Connecticut in the late 90s with her husband and three young children, Cathy continued playing the flute in chamber groups and church orchestras. While living in CT, she was on the board and executive committee of the Norwalk Symphony Orchestra and was involved in fundraising activities. She also volunteered as assistant to the music director at First Presbyterian Church in New Canaan, CT, helping to run the church’s music program and producing the annual musicals.
Cathy fell in love with the sound of the baroque flute 15 years ago, while studying with Adrianne Greenbaum in CT, an historical flute and Klezmer specialist. The baroque flute is now her primary instrument and it has been a huge joy to discover LAB and to make music with others playing historical instruments under Lindsey’s inspirational direction.
Zenovia Edwards, Adminstrative Director
(from Summer 2026), previously Marketing Director
Zen has played baroque violin and viola for over 25 years, most recently since relocating from London in 2014 with UCLA’s Early Music Ensemble, Los Angeles Baroque, Musica Transalpina, and for Pomona College’s performance of Bach's Magnificat. Her specialist training began under Peter Holman (Music Director, Parley of Instruments) and Judy Tarling (baroque violin) at the yearly Suffolk Villages Festival in the U.K., for which she played from 1997 to 2013. Edwards has a 1st class (Hons) Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Birmingham, U.K., in musicology and viola. In her professional arts administration life she has worked in creative planning and production roles in international artist management (Harrison/Parrott Ltd., 1995-2001) and recorded music (EMI Classics International, 2001-2011) and for small music nonprofits on both sides of the pond. When not playing in LAB and helping out behind the scenes in a voluntary capacity for the organization, she enjoys being a section community viola player and active board member of Santa Monica Symphony; working as Executive Director of the Baroque Music Festival, Corona del Mar; supporting her teenage children’s musical activities; and camping in the Western States’ beautiful National and State Parks.
